Culinary Festival - Festival Jenang Solo 2015

 Festival Jenang Solo is a food festival in Solo City, one of the most famous City in Central Java, Indonesia. Festival Jenang Solo will be held on 15 – 17 Februari 2015 at Ngarsopura street. Ngarsopura is a center of antiques shop in Solo that sells many handicraft, souvenir, and relic, ancient or sacred object. In this street, the Solo government will serve more than 170.000 jenang to everyone around freely.

This event is held as 270th anniversary of Solo City and the fourth Festival Jenang Solo. The first event was held on 2012 under Joko Widodo governance. Jokowi, in that time said, that this festival was held to maintain traditional culinary in Solo, especially jenang. In Solo, Jenang is very close and popular to the people. But recently, jenang is being rare because the coming of modern food. By this Festival Jenang Solo, Jokowi hoped that traditional culinary in Solo will always be exist and many people can enjoy it.
Jenang is a traditional porridge from Javanese. There are many kind of jenang and each has unique and special taste. Especially in this event, most of jenang that will be served are rarely one. This jenang has already been difficult to find around because there are no many people can make it. Moreover, many modern food forced the traditional food to be gone.

Traditional porridge that will be served includes jenang sumsum (has a sweet taste, usually red and white), jenang gendul (has a sweet taste with yam inside), jenang mutiara (has a plain delicious taste with a pearl look), and also jenang pathi (has a sweet taste and made from starch).
