A global festival, Southeast Asia's largest and most
exciting literary event for writers and readers once again set to fill the lush
surrounds of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2014
will take place in Ubud, Bali, on October 1 to 5 2014. Theme of Ubud Writers
& Readers Festival 2014 for this year is "Saraswati (the Balinese
Hindu goddess of learning) - Wisdom and Knowledge". This year’s theme, is
an exploration of the wisdom to be gained by creative expression.
The event has been going on for 10 years since 2004. It will
bring together writers, readers, and fans of writing from around the world to
celebrate the knowledge and the arts, education, policy and science. There will
be many shows that feature a variety of art including literary lunches,
workshops, cultural masterclasses, in-depth conversations, children’s and youth
events, twilight performances, film screenings, poetry slams, art exhibitions,
book launches and more.
This event will be attended by no less than 150
international authors from 25 countries around the world. This year's event
will invite selected 15 Indonesian writers sponsored by the UWRF and HIVOS
(international funding agencies based in the Netherlands) to attend the
international event. This event is a golden opportunity for these selected
writers. Due to these selected writers, their works will also be translated
into English and published in a bilingual anthology festival. Since 2008, UWRF
has published six books bilingual anthology.
On top of that, 'genius' debut novelist and Baileys
Prize-winner Eimear McBride has joined the line-up, as well as graphic artist
Reinhard Kleist, Women of Letters founder Michaela McGuire, memoiristLiam
Pieper, Queen of Crime and creator of much-loved series Wire in the Blood, Val
McDermid, 2014 Miles Franklin shortlisted nominee Fiona McFarlane, master
novelist Amitav Ghosh, along with Pulitzer Prize-finalist Deborah Baker and
intrepid adventurer and author of On the Trail of Genghis Khan Tim Cope.
This event is an art and cultural heart of Bali. Ubud
Writers & Readers Festival has become a cultural event and the largest and
most well-known literature in Southeast Asia and even the world. The festival
is presented by Mudra Foundation Swari Saraswati that first initiated by Janet
DeNeefe as recovery project after the Bali Bomb tragedy. Currently, Ubud
Writers & Readers Festival has become a world-class venue for festivals, a
